On the last day of shotgun season in Oswego County, New York, Brian Ferman and his dad, Bill, decided it was time to get aggressive. Brian slipped into the woods across the street from Bill's home, then hid in a thicket between an open field and a stand of mature hardwoods.
Meanwhile, Bill started to circle around to make a slow, quiet drive toward Brian. The younger hunter had been in the woods only five minutes when he heard a buck grunt ... then, all was quiet for 20 minutes. Finally, Brian heard movement nearby in the thicket, and in short order he saw a big buck moving cautiously in his direction.
When the hunter finally pulled the trigger, the 151-inch 10-pointer was only 12 yards from him! The buck has a 19-inch spread and was aged at 6 1/2 years: particularly old for a buck in that part of New York.
