On Oct. 4, 1995, Pete Eisenbarth of Lincoln, Nebraska, watched anxiously as a doe, a forkhorn and this handsome 8-pointer walked toward his Dundy County stand. Soon, all three animals were a mere 15 yards from where Pete waited . . . but before the bowhunter could get a clear shot, the deer bedded behind some brush.

Over an hour later, the three deer finally got up and walked off, the bigger buck bringing up the rear. At 25 yards Pete's arrow flew true and nailed the 8-pointer. He made it only 70 yards before dropping.
