Another very important food plot implement is a harrow. These are used for breaking up food plot soils into smaller pieces and also to smooth and cover over some seeds. The Hunter's Specialties ATV chain harrow (available from Bass Pro) features dozens of metal teeth that set up when the implement is pulled to grab the soil and grade the surface. Cabela's has a drag harrow that can be set for light or heavy-duty cutting action.
Swisher offers a couple of ATV tools that can be valuable for food plot creation and maintenance. Their ATV Trailcutter uses hardened-steel-reinforced 44-inch cutting blades to clear brush and weeds up to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. A 12.5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine supplies plenty of power. A single lever adjusts for height.
If you need to clear brush or trails, the Swisher ATV Dump Bucket attaches to your ATV in seconds. It features a heavy-duty 48-inch-wide bucket with rugged scoring teeth for penetration of compacted soil. It has an 18-inch lift height but must be operated with a winch. Both are available from Bass Pro.
