Brenton Brown, Montana
Brenton Brown of Kalispell, Montana, shot this outstanding 6x6 while hunting just west of Kalispell on Nov. 20, 2006. Brenton was hiking up an old logging road at first light in the freezing rain when the rutting buck darted out in front of him.
The hunter only had a split second to decide if this buck was a shooter, but he made a good decision. "To be honest, I had no idea he was a big as he was," Brenton said. "My Ruger .280 dropped him in his tracks just before he was about to disappear into the thick trees. He turned out to be a 6x6 non-typical with forked eye guards and a drop tine.
He had an inside spread of 18 3/8 inches and an outside spread of 20 1/8. His B&C gross score was 141 4/8."
