Trophy Photos From Our Readers -- July 2007
Dave Fehrer, Iowa
After five years of working out-of-state, avid bow hunter Dave Fehrer moved back home to Warren County, Iowa. Dave bought 40 acres to build on. A long ridge runs through the property and Dave's western boundary borders a river bottom.
"A friend turned me on to this land and he also showed me pictures of a big buck taken by another friend approximately 1 mile away," Dave says.
"My friend hunted this deer for several seasons and his trail camera photos were from 2003, 2005 and 2006.
"On November 1 at 6:40 a.m., while hunting on the ridge in the middle of my property, this "hog" came down a well-worn path 20 yards from my stand. I mouth grunted to stop him and shot him with a Carbon Express arrow, tipped with a NAP razorback set loose by my Mathews Switchback.
The buck ran 30 yards, stood for a few minutes and went down. This typical 8-point rack a right with right double brow tines and left triple brow tines gross-scored 170 7/8 inches. The inside spread measured 27 1/8 inches. I've bowhunted for 29 years and this buck is definitely the bowkill of my life!"
