Stacy Keen, Georgia
On Nov. 29, 2005, avid Georgia whitetail hunter Stacy Keen got off work early enough to do a little deer hunting before dark. Stacy was hunting on private land near his home in Turner County.
It was warm that day, around 60 degrees and clear and sunny. "I had my Tomcat II climbing stand and I found a good spot in a cypress bottom about 100 yards from my truck," Stacy said. "I got up in my tree at about 4:15 p.m. About 30 minutes later I saw a good buck coming through the bottom. I couldn't see his rack real well but I knew he was a shooter. When he got within about 60 yards I was able to get a clear shot. I was using my Remnigton .270. I knew he was a nice buck, but I had no idea just how nice until I got home."
Once home, Stacy called a good friend, Buck Davis who works at nearby Little River Plantation, a popular quail and deer hunting preserve. Buck convinced Stacy that he had just bagged a one-in-a-million whitetail. Stacy later called official B&C measurer Bill Cooper to score the rack. The South Georgia giant grossed 179 7/8 typical points. After subtracting nearly 15 inches in side-to-side deductions, Stacy's buck netted 163 3/8.
"I've been told by other hunters that a buck like this comes along once in a lifetime," Stacy says. "I sure hope to prove them wrong!"
