Rocky Argento, Ohio
It was Nov. 19, 2005, the Saturday before Thanksgiving in Ohio. Although the weather had been unusually warm, 24-year-olf Rocky Argento was determined to do some bowhunting. It was Rocky's third season of bowhunting but he had yet to shoot a buck with his bow. After seeing several smaller bucks at randon times throughout the day, things started picking up late in the afternoon. About 4:30, Rocky saw a small 8-pointer over to his left.
Ten minutes later, he heard a noise over to his right. "As soon as I saw him I knew he was a shooter," Rocky said. "The big buck came right in toward my stand and stood looking at the smaller buck. He was standing in some brush about 15 yards away but I couldn't get a shot. The smaller buck didn't even know he was there. Then the big buck started walking ahead.
I had to turn around in my tree stand in order to get a shot, and when I did, my tree stand made a noise. I thought I was busted. But I had a lot of cover around my stand and I was well hidden. Anyway, the big buck was more interested in the smaller buck. He walked right up to him and made a few grunts. The smaller buck trotted off.
By now it was starting to get dark and I knew I didn't have much daylight left. The big buck finally took a few steps forward and I was a ble to make a good shot at 7 yards. My buck turned out to be a nice 9-pointer. He grossed about 135 and field dressed approximately 220 pounds. What a great experience!"
