John Buscher, Rhode Island
Although John Buscher of Cranston, Rhode Island, is a veteran subscriber to North American Whitetail, it took him 20 years to catch up with a buck of this caliber. John decided to take the day off on Nov. 18, 2005, the last day of Rhode Island's three-week muzzleloader season.
"It was a perfect morning at 28 degrees," John said. "A light northwest wind was blowing. At daybreak, a doe came through the swamp that I was watching. I suspected that she was in heat from the way she was moving around, so I decided to grunt a few times.
After I grunted three or four times, it sounded like a locomotive was coming through the swamp. Then this big 13-pointer showed himself about 50 yards away, and one shot from my .50 caliber Knight rifle put him down for good. My buck of a lifetime dressed out at 190 pounds. He was a main-framed 5x5 with three stickers."
