Brett Novik, Idaho
For the past few years, Brett Novik of Idaho Falls, Idaho, has focused much of his deer scouting attention on the river bottoms of the South Fork of the Snake River. Brett guides fishing trips during the summer, and he's found some great locations for whitetails in this area.
One particular spot is a natural funnel between a bend in the river on an island and a natural food source in the grain fields above the river. "The spot is a perfect pinch,"
Brett says. "During the fishing and guiding season, I periodically check my
trail cameras that I put out.
Last season, during the last week of October, I noticed a buck checking the doe trails for the first time. On November 6, my first afternoon in the stand, he walked by at 8 yards and offered me a perfect shot. He ran 40 yards and fell within my sight. He scored right at 131 3/8. Not bad for an Idaho whitetail!
