Cody Reed, Alabama
In Alabama's famed "black belt" region in the east-central portion of the state, the peak of the rut comes in late January and the season is open until the end of the month.
After hunting all his life in this part of Alabama, Cody Reed of Auburn finally shot this buck of a lifetime on January 21, 2006. Cody was hunting on his uncle's farm. He was positioned in a hardwood bottom on the edge of a food plot.
Around 9 a.m., this outstanding 10-pointer came through some thick woods chasing a doe. The big buck was in full rut and Cody made a good shot with his .270. His awesome Alabama wallhanger scored 156 7/8 typical points.
