Scott Woodall, Tennessee

Deer of the Day They say all good things come to those who wait and longtime Tennessee whitetail hunter Scott Woodall couldn't agree more. He's waited all his life for a deer of this caliber to come along!

Scott was hunting in Sumner County on November 26, 2005. "I had to work night shift the night before but I left work early to get in a couple of hours of hunting," Scott said. "I got to the woods well after daylight. As I got ready to go down a logging road I could hear a deer just below the crest of the hill. I eased forward and spotted a doe making her way up a creek bed. About the time I saw her she spotted me and she trotted up the creek and out of sight. I continued on a few yards and saw three more deer. They never saw me. I walked another 50 yards and saw two more does.

"The deer were really out that morning and I was afraid I had run everything off. I finally made it to where I wanted to sit. Well, almost. About 20 yards from my tree a deer started to blow and stomp the ground. The wind was in my face and the cover made it hard for the deer to see me. The dense cover made it possible for me to get to my tree without being seen. I tried to sound like a deer by stomping and grunting as I made my way to the tree. I got there and sat down. After a few minutes the does settled down and made their way around the ridge in clear view of my position.

"I had only been sitting for about 20 minutes when I heard another deer coming around the hilltop. The first thing I saw was a set of horns! They looked huge. There was no doubt I was looking at a shooter buck! He stopped in an opening as I centered the cross hairs on his shoulder. I took the shot and the big monarch just shrugged. One more shot put him down for good. He weighed approximately 170 pounds and he scored 148 inches as an 8-pointer!.
