Gary Krueger, Wisconsin
November 19, 2005 turned out to be a day that Gary Krueger of Washburn, Wisconsin will never forget. Hunting out of an Ameristep ground blind on public land, Gary had eight does around him as the sun started to come up that morning.
Around 7:30 a.m., he saw movement out in front of his position through the brush. He figured it had to be a buck because the deer had its nose to the ground as if it were following a hot doe. "He was coming straight at me," Gary remembers.
"When he got to 40 yards, he turned and gave me the first glimpse of his antlers. He also gave me a good broadside shot and my Remington Model 700 .30-06 did the rest. He kept coming toward me and finally went down at about 15 yards. With 10-inch brow tines and a 20 2/8 inch inside spread, my awesome 11-point buck grossed 162 inches!"
