Robbie Dockter, Montana
Avid bowhunter Robbie Dockter of Conrad, Montana, sighted this buck over 20 times during the summer of 2005. On Sept. 3, 2005, opening day of the Montana archery season, Robbie spotted his buck at a distance of 100 yards but he could not get any closer.
Going to the same tree stand that same afternoon and sitting in the 90 degree heat, Robbie spotted a bachelor group feeding in an alfalfa field about 400 yards away. About an hour before dark, the group started heading in Robbie’s direction. The bucks passed by him in a single-file line.
Robbie held out for the last and biggest buck, the same buck he had been watching all summer long. At 27 yards he made a great shot on the Montana beauty!
