Last summer, a good friend of Jeff Weber's asked him to attend his October wedding in Las Vegas. Normally at that time of year Jeff would have been in the woods patterning deer for the Ohio rut. After Jeff and his wife attended the wedding -- and had a great time to boot -- Jeff headed to one of his favorite stand locations in Seneca County on the morning of Oct. 19, 2004. Jeff sat in his climber for about an hour without incident. Then, suddenly, he heard several loud grunts in a fencerow directly behind him. "My first impulse was, 'There's somebody behind me with a loud grunt call, but boy was I wrong!'" Jeff said. All of a sudden, two does emerged followed by the biggest buck he'd ever seen. When the buck got within 30 yards, Jeff mouthed a doe bleat. The buck came charging in and began pawing the ground. Jeff drew back his bow, concentrated, and made a perfect seven-yard shot.
"We haven't scored him yet, but he has 15 points, a 21-inch spread, and he field-dressed 175-pounds," Jeff said. "If I hadn't attended my buddy's wedding, I'd have been at work that day, instead of sitting in my stand on that awesome morning! What a lucky hunt!"
