Mark Metropulos, Wisconsin
Nov. 18, 2006, opening day of the Wisconsin gun season, found Mark Metropulos some 1.8 miles (by gps) from his truck hunting on public land in northwestern Wisconsin. Mark decided to put his tree stand in a tree on a shelf halfway up a ridge. At around 8 a.m., 5 deer ran down the hill in front of him.
Mark later discovered they were being chased by a pack of wolves. Three of the deer, including a buck, ran away, but two does ran right under his tree. Mark was excited because they milled around for a while and one appeared to be in estrus. Twenty minutes later a huge buck appeared on the scene. "He was looking for the doe," Mark said.
"He came straight for my stand so I grunted him to a stop at 20 yards. Using my Ruger No. 1 .270, I dropped him in his tracks." Despite a broken tine, the 11-point brute grossed 155 B&C points!
