Trophy Photos From Our Readers -- December 2006
Kaleb Burns, Missouri
On the morning of Nov. 18, 2006, 14-year-old Kaleb Burns of Columbia, Missouri, shot a whopper of a first buck! It was cloudy and a cold wind was blowing from the northwest when Kaleb and his dad Kevin started packing their gear to go back to the house for some warm breakfast.
Suddenly this big 11-pointer appeared about 120 yards away. Kaleb was ready to take the shot when a basket-racked 8-pointer ran right in front of the big one. Kaleb waited for the 8-pointer to move, and then he made a perfect shot and the brute fell into a nearby creek.
Kaleb's first whitetail buck field dressed at 175 pounds and sported an inside spread of 14 3/8 inches. Both main beams measured 20 1/2 inches. The buck grossed just over 143 inches. Kaleb was hunting on his grandpa's farm in Putnam County, Missouri.
"Last year, I got to witness Kaleb harvest his first deer, a doe," his dad proudly said. "This year, I got to witness him harvest his first buck. Two very special memories for one proud dad!"
