Steve Payne shot this big 8-pointer on opening day in Wisconsin while hunting in Douglas County. It was getting late in the afternoon on Nov. 18, 2006, and Steve hadn't seen a single deer all day long. He was about to call it a day when a doe came walking by his stand at about 4:20 p.m. "She acted very nervous and she kept looking over her shoulder," Steve said.
"I had a doe tag but decided to wait and watch. Within about a minute, this monster came walking up the same trail in hot pursuit. He was walking with the wind and he was only about 35 yards from my stand!" Steve knew what to do next! "He's the nicest buck I ever shot," the happy hunter said. "He had an inside spread of 21 1/2 inches and he green-scored 152 4/8. He weighed 220 pounds and had a 35-inch neck. What a great day in the woods!"
