Trophy Photos From Our Readers
Jean Proix, New Hampshire
After reading the article about Nick Nixon's big Virginia six-pointer in the Nov. 2005 issue of North American Whitetail, Jean Proulx of Manchester, New Hampshire wanted to share his story about a seven-pointer he shot on Dec. 7, 2002. It happened on the day before the season ended that year.
"It was a perfect day for hunting with early morning temperatures in the single digits and four inches of fresh powder snow," Jean said. "Moving carefully one or two steps at a time and scanning the area well before moving ahead, I spotted a deer moving through the trees. As the deer got closer it turned and started coming toward me and I could see antlers.
When he stepped out from behind a big pine tree and stopped, he raised his head and looked right toward me. I couldn't believe the size of his rack! The only shot I had was a straight-on neck shot. I squeezed the trigger and the deer dropped in his tracks. As I walked up to him I was thinking that he probably had 10 or 12 points. When I saw that he was only a seven-pointer I was not the least bit disappointed. I never thought that I would consider a seven-point buck to be the trophy of a lifetime, but I do now. He's a magnificent seven and I couldn't be happier!"
Jean's buck dressed out at 176 pounds and grossed 134 7/8 inches.
