Bill Anderson, a taxidermist and avid hunter from Kendall, New York, got the surprise of his life on Nov. 20, 2005. It was just after daylight on the second day of gun season when a doe came by his treestand. Suddenly a big buck appeared following in her footsteps. "I could tell he was big through the scope but when he walked up I couldn't believe there was a buck that big in our area," Bill said.
"Despite the fact that we have trail cameras out year-round this buck had never been seen before. I was able to make a perfect shot at 52 yards and he dropped in his tracks. He had a total of 17 points and he green-scored 182 inches including about 16 3/8 inches in non-typical points. And that's with several inches of his left main beam missing! The rack has a lot of character; kickers, knife edges, webbing and a lot of mass."
Being active members of the QDMA, Bill and his dad have been managing their land for quality deer for the past five years. They've also influenced other landowners around them to do the same thing. In fact, this is the first buck Bill has taken off the land during that time. "All that hard work and patience finally paid off!" Bill said.
