Trophy Photos From Our Readers -- March 2007
John Demchak, Pennsylvania
It was a clear sunny day and the temperature was in the mid 50s. The date was Nov. 28, 2006, and 22-year-old John Demchak of Crucible, Pennsylvania, was hunting with a group on a friend's property within walking distance of his house.
Deer movement had been poor that morning and the group decided to do a drive."Several hunters were driving a thicket to my right and they jumped a nice buck," John said. "One hunter took aim, shot and missed and the buck ran in my direction. He stopped about 15 yards in front of me looking over the hill, giving me enough time to take aim with my Ruger M77 Mark II chambered in .257 Roberts, before going over the hillside.
I shot just as he went over the top. He dropped about 30 yards from where I was standing. I knew he was a big one, but after topping the hill to retrieve my trophy, I realized that this was the size buck I had been longing to shoot for the past 3 years. He had an awesome 10-point rack and an inside spread of 19 1/2 inches!
