Vince Miller, Virginia
Last year while hunting Jefferson National Forest in Bland County, Virginia, Vince Miller was hunting a core doe area during the peak of the rut. Even though there was a distinct lack of buck sign, the area had produced rutting bucks in the past for this native of southwest Virginia.
A slow morning suddenly erupted into a heated chase as a doe fled from a thick stand of pines followed by this nice 143-inch, 10-pointer. As soon as the buck appeared, Vince shouldered his .270, drew a bead and squeezed the trigger.
In less than 10 seconds his day had gone from a slow morning to bagging the buck of a lifetime. It just goes to show how quickly things can change in the woods during the rut!
