Prior to the 2006 season, Sharon Parsons of Waterville, Ohio, had been hunting for 4 years without success. But all of that changed on Nov. 9, 2006. "My husband Steve and I have stands about 200 yards apart and on this day we got into the woods around 4 p.m.," Sharon said. "It was just a great day to be hunting -- unseasonably warm at 65 degrees. In an instant this buck stepped out to my left in the clear at about 35 yards away, and he stood completely still. I kept telling myself to be patient, don't move, and keep breathing! When he looked back back toward his tail I raised up my crossbow and he never saw me. I took the shot as soon as he looked forward again.
After coming down from our stands Steve and I didn't find much blood, just the arrow with several inches missing including the broadhead.
"I had to leave to take our son to diving practice at his high school but Steve kept looking. He called me at the pool to say that he had found my buck. After getting the deer home I never slept the whole night. I went out to the garage at 1 and 4 a.m. to check and make sure he was still there and that I hadn't been dreaming! He weighed 182 pounds field dressed and his neck was 29 inches around. As a main-framed 4x4 with 7 additional abnormal points, he officially scored 166 2/8 inches. Wow, what an amazing first deer!"
