Jesse Tumpak, Pennsylvania
The date was Nov. 1, 2005 and the rut was really starting to heat up in northwestern Pennsylvania. Jesse Tumpak of Greenville obtained permission to hunt on a 180-acre farm that had seen very little hunting pressure during archery season.
After bowhunting hard for a week, Jesse decided to build a ground blind in a drainage that contained considerable fresh deer sign.
The area recently had been logged and there were no suitable trees on which to hang a stand. During his first hunt in the blind, Jesse grunted several times and this bad boy came charging in. Jesse made a perfect 17-yard shot with his Mathews SQ2. The big-bodied 10-pointer weighed approximately 200 pounds.
