Trophy Photos From Our Readers -- November 2007
Bob Walden, Indiana
In early November 2007 Bob Walden headed to his stand at about 3 p.m. Bob was hunting in Vigo County, Indiana, and the rut was in full swing. By 3:30 Bob was 25 feet up a tree in his trusty Tree Lounge tree stand.
The temperature was 57 degrees and the wind was out of the southeast. He'd only been in his stand for 15 minutes when he heard the leaves crunching to his left. Bob looked over and saw a nice 6-pointer that he decided to pass up. Then he saw another small buck. Ten minute later he saw a third small buck.
All three deer acted strangely as if they were intimidated. Bob watched them slowly walk off. By now it was about 4:10 p.m. and Bob saw yet another buck coming in. "It was a lot nicer than the others, and I soon discovered that he was chasing a doe," Bob said. "As the two deer got closer to me the buck had his head down ears pinned back and he was grunting up a storm right behind her. I drew my bow back and grunted.
He stopped. At 15 yards, I released my arrow, tipped with a 100-grain Grim Reaper. The arrow passed through both lungs and he didn't go but about 15 yards before piling up. The next day my best friend and I cut up the meat and I cooked up some of the backstraps. Food and enjoyment is why I hunt. Getting a nice rack and some glory is just a bonus!"
