On Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, Joe Lewis arrowed this unusual "trophy" while hunting in Leon, New York (western New York State).
"When I saw this white figure coming up behind my stand at about 9 a.m., I thought it was a dog and I planned to try to scare it away," Joe remembers.
"When it got to about 25 yards, I still didn't think it was a deer since nobody in the area had seen a piebald. At 15 yards, I finally got a good look at her and realized it was a deer. My bow was still on the hanger at that point. I quickly picked it up drew back. I let out a soft bleat to stop her and shot her through both lungs at 12 yards. I have taken several bucks in my bowhunting career but this is by far the most interesting whitetail I have ever taken. Word has spread since I took the doe and I have received quite a bit of attention including interest from the Buffalo News, our area newspaper. I feel very fortunate to have been given the change to harvest such a beautiful animal."
