Trophy Photos From Our Readers - October 2008
Austin Savell, Mississippi
Eleven-year-old Austin Savell killed this beautiful 6-point velvet buck on Friday Oct. 4, 2008, while hunting on his grandparent's land in Rankin County, Mississippi. The deer came out around 100 yards away and Austin watched nervously for about 20 minutes as the buck approached.
Finally the buck offered him a quartering shot at 25 yards and Austin drew back his Parker bow and made a good shot. The deer went down after traveling only a short distance. The buck had been accompanied by three does. Austin's great achievement occurred on the third day he'd gone hunting with his dad after school. The hunt was recorded on video by his mother at a distance of over 200 yards away. Austin previously had won his first 3D archery tournament sponsored by Bass Pro Shops and this was his first buck with a bow!
"The outdoors is a great place to keep our children," said Austin's dad Michael.
