Three weeks into bow season last year Derrick Cook of Bedford, Indiana, decided to go over to his uncle J.D.’s 20 acres to shoot one of the does his uncle had been seeing on a regular basis.
Sitting on a stump in the woods in full camo late in the afternoon, Derrick did some calling and rattling. Moments later, this hefty 8-pointer appeared. Despite a bad case of the shakes, Derrick made a good 20-yard shot with his Oneida bow.
Later he called his uncle and said, “I’ve got your doe.” “Okay,” J.D. replied, “just string her up in the front yard.” Derrick then said, “well, she’s got 11 points!” It was Derrick’s biggest bowkill ever!
