After oversleeping on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 2007, Brian Smith of Harrisonburg, Virginia, got to the woods late. Around 9 a.m., this beautiful 9-pointer walked within 40 yards following a doe in thick brush. Brian passed on the shot because he could not see the rack very well.
Minutes later, when the buck reappeared at 120 yards, Brian was shocked to see that he was carrying a very good rack. Brian made a long shot with his .25-06 Remington Mountain Rifle and the buck was his!
“I could not believe that I could have shot him at 40 yards, but thinking he was smaller, I let him walk to 120 yards before taking a shot,” Brian said. “I guess that’s how some big buck get big. Hunters misjudge them!”
