Trophy Photos From Our Readers - September 2008
Vern Osborn, South Dakota
This highly unusual spotted buck was arrowed by Vern Osborn of Colton, South Dakota, in Nov. 2007. Vern was 20 feet up a tree when a doe bedded nearby. Then this brute showed up and Vern made a perfect 30-yard shot with his Jennings Air Speed. Vern’s 5 1/2-year-old 10-pointer scored 144 inches and field dressed at 190 pounds.
“Fawns get big in South Dakota!” Vern said with a smile. Although unusual, for a mature buck to have “fawn” spots is not unheard of. Just like deer that have manes, or bucks that have very short ears, oddities among deer occur on a regular basis throughout the whitetail’s range.
