6 New Slug Guns for 2012

Modern advancements have made new slug guns more accurate than ever, which is great news for the hunter who relies on one to fill the freezer! Here's a look at six that'll more than get the job done.

Mossberg 500 Slugster

It is hard to beat the Mossberg Model 500 Slugster when it comes to value and performance. This gun is available with a variety of options including a 24-inch fluted, rifled Slugster barrel that is reported to reduce recoil. It comes with a cantilever scope mount base and an adjustable fiber optic sight. It also comes with Mossberg's Lightning Pump Action adjustable trigger system. The gun can be purchased with a synthetic or wood stock.

Savage Model 212

The Savage Model 212 is a classic 12-gauge 3-inch bolt-action slug gun that features the Savage adjustable AccuTrigger system. The 212 has a detachable box magazine, a durable carbon steel barrel and a durable synthetic stock. The gun is drilled and tapped for a scope. Hunters looking for the reliability and accuracy of a bolt-action slug gun should check this out.

Benelli Super Black Eagle II

The inertia-driven system offered by Benelli is known for being extremely reliable and fast-cycling. Benelli currently offers a semi-auto slug gun called the Super Black Eagle II Slug Gun. This 3-inch, 12-gauge gun has all the features hunters are used to from Benelli such as a heavy-walled 1:28 twist and a rifled barrel that will provide accuracy beyond what would be expected from a slug gun. The gun comes with barrel-mounted, fully adjustable rear sights, fixed blade front sights and the receiver is drilled and tapped. It can be purchased with the ComforTech stock.

Browning Maxus Rifled Deer Gun

Browning is offering a 3-inch, 12-gauge Maxus rifled deer gun that looks and shoots like a dream. At the heart of the shotgun is an aluminum alloy receiver that is strong and lightweight. The Maxus has a thick-walled barrel perfect for powerful slugs. The gun features the Power Drive gas system, which reduces recoil and quickly cycles shells. The Maxus has a durable composite stock and a close radius pistol grip and Cantilever scope mount.

Remington 870 Express Slug Gun

The Remington 870 Express is one of the most popular pump shotguns in the country. Their 870 Express Slug gun is popular with hunters who need rifle-like accuracy from a shotgun. The 870 slug gun is available in 12- and 20-gauge and has the following features: fully rifled, heavy contour barrel, a solid cantilever scope mount system, a rock steady receiver milled from a solid billet of steel for strength and durability and twin action bars so the action is extra smooth at all times.

Winchester X3 Cantilever

The Winchester Super X3 Cantilever deer gun is a gun with plenty of attitude and power. This gun can handle 2 3/4-inch sabot slugs and 3-inch slugs. The gun has everything needed to bring big bucks down. This semi-auto shotgun features the Winchester Active Valve system that quickly cycles shells so the gun is ready for a follow-up shot in no time. The gun is ready for the elements. The Cantilever deer gun also features the gunmetal gray Perma-Cote UT (Ultra Tough) surface finish on the barrel and receiver. In addition, the bolt is plated with nickel for reduced friction and extreme corrosion resistance. If that's not enough, the gun comes with Dura-Touch Armor Coating on the composite stock and forearm, which improves the grip in all conditions. This gun comes ready for a scope and also comes with a TRUGLO fiber optic sight.
