ACR Electronics MicroFix
The ACR MicroFix 406 MHz GPS Personal Locator Beacon is a one-button-activated emergency signaling device for hunters, hikers, climbers, pilots and outdoorsmen.
Weighing in at just 10 ounces, the MicroFix is easily carried in a pack or pocket and is small enough to be worn on a belt or pack. A lanyard and clip provide functionality and allow for multiple mounting options.
When the button is activated, the MicroFix transmits on 406 MHz via the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system with the sender's unique registered digitally coded distress signal. Emergency officials monitoring the system can tell who is sending the signal and precisely where the signal is coming from (thanks to the built-in GPS engine). The beacon's built-in 136 dBm GPS receiver provides for faster acquisition, a bonus in any rescue where every second counts.
The MicroFix's built-in 12-channel parallel GPS acquires and then transmits latitude and longitude to direct rescuers to within 110 yards. The MicroFix also simultaneously transmits a signal on the 121.5 MHz SAR homing frequency to assist rescuers in homing in once they're in the general area.
The unit is powered by two Class II lithium battery packs with a typical operating life of 40 hours at minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 20 degrees Celcius) and eight hours at minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The MicroFix is waterproof up to 16 feet. A flat, stainless steel antenna wraps compactly around the unit for easy stowage and is ready for rapid deployment.
A PLB is a satellite-signaling device of last resort, for use when all other means of self-rescue have been exhausted and where the situation is grave and imminent and the loss of life, limb, eyesight or valuable property will occur without assistance. All beacons must be registered following purchase. Suggested retail price: $399.00 to $599.00.
