SHOWING THIS WEEK: DEC. 20, 22, 24: TEXAS, MEXICO RIFLE
The final 2005 episode sees the NAW Television team heading way down south, for a pair of gun hunts that feature some of the latest rut action found anywhere in North America. In mid-January Dr. James Kroll hunts the Rio Grande region of northern Mexico with the folks at Rio Bravo Safaris, and "Dr. Deer" downs one of the highest-racked whitetails you've ever seen taken on video. Gordon Whittington hunts El Cazador Ranch, the South Texas property owned by North American Whitetail co-founder David Morris. Thanks to David's participation in a special management program conducted by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, the gun season at El Cazador now extends all the way through February -- and Gordon takes advantage of that fact by downing a fully mature, 140-inch trophy on Feb. 22!
SEPT. 27 30 & OCT. 1: WYOMING BOW
Stan Potts, Greg Miller and Pat Reeve kick off the year in northeastern Wyoming, hunting with Mike Watkins of Trophies Plus Outfitters. The action is as hot as the early-September weather, with Pat and Stan arrowing beautiful bucks. Stan's buck is taken on opening day, and Pat's fine 10-pointer is shot the day after he captures an image of the impressive deer with his Cuddeback Digital trail camera. (Although Greg doesn't take a deer on this hunt, he later returns for a successful rifle hunt, which will air later on.)
OCT. 4, 6, 8: MONTANA & TEXAS BOW
Pat Reeve's bowhunt in southeastern Montana features some super September action. Hunting with Trophies Plus Outfitters, Pat takes a fine 10-pointer along the edge of an alfalfa field. Meanwhile, Greg Miller heads to Texas, where he meets up with good friend Michael Waddell of Realtree Road Trips for an October bowhunt with Double M-R Ranch. Greg fills his tag with a super 8-pointer at close range.
OCT. 11, 13, 15: MINNESOTA & COLORADO BOW
This week we feature some exciting earlyseason archery hunting. Pat Reeve hunts his home state of Minnesota with John Redmond of Fair Chase Outfitters and has several close encounters with big bucks. Pat then loads up the truck and heads west to hunt with eastern Colorado outfitter Tom Tietz of Natural Adventures. After seeing some giant mule deer, Pat ends this hunt by tagging a nice 10-point whitetail.
OCT. 18, 20, 22: KANSAS & ALBERTA BOW
Greg Miller hunts an area in Kansas that has produced multiple big bucks for him over the years. This trip turns out to be no exception, and he observes several good trophy bucks before arrowing a 145-class 5x5. Also this week, Pat Reeve heads to southern Alberta, where he ends a thrilling bowhunt by taking a solid 8-pointer on the final evening.
OCT. 25, 27, 29 : ILLINOIS BOW, SASKATCHEWAN RIFLE
Stan Potts bowhunts his home state of Illinois and scores big. A giant-bodied 4x4 scoring close to 150 makes the mistake of coming within bow range, and Stan's Mathews takes over from there. Our other hunt this week features Pat Reeve and his dad at Dahl Creek Outfitters, a wilderness operation in northeastern Saskatchewan. Pat and his Thompson/Center down a 12-pointer that scores around 145.
NOV. 1, 3, 5: OHIO & ILLINOIS BOW
After years of hearing about Ohio's legendary giant whitetails, this week Pat Reeve gets a chance to witness what all of the buzz is about. While bowhunting with Joel Snow at Five Star Trophy Outfitters, he has several encounters with great bucks and ends up missing a 12-pointer. Meanwhile, Stan Potts is in his home state of Illinois, on a super property known as The Grigsby. It's a special hunt sponsored by Muzzy Broadheads, and such well-known fellow bowhunters as Michael Waddell, Tom Miranda and Bob Robb are on the hunt with Stan. After several close calls with trophy bucks, Stan arrows a 143-inch 8-pointer over a decoy.
NOV. 8, 10, 12: IOWA BOW, SASKATCHEWAN RIFLE
This week Gordon Whittington heads to southern Iowa for a bowhunt during the rut with his friend Steve Bailey of Renzo's Decoys. Despite challenging conditions, Gordon shoots a good 8-pointer after rattling and decoying the deer into range. Also featured in this episode is Dr. James Kroll's rut rifle hunt in northern Saskatchewan with Double Arrow Outfitters. James passes on several big bucks before downing a tall, heavy 8-pointer.
NOV. 15, 17, 19: ILLINOIS BOW
Get ready for some exciting archery action from the great whitetail state of Illinois. Pat Reeve hunts with Timberland Outfitters and takes a beautiful buck, while Greg Miller does likewise at Spring Valley Outfitters. This episode will make it clear why you want to be perched in a tree in the Midwest when November rolls around!
NOV. 22, 24, 26: ILLINOIS MUZZLELOADER, WYOMING RIFLE
BuckHorn Outfitters hosts Pat Reeve on an Illinois muzzleloader hunt, and the hunter cashes in big time with his Thompson/Center Omega. Much farther west, Greg heads to Wyoming for a crack at a big whitetail with Trophies Plus Outfitters. The rut is cooking, and it doesn't take our hunter long to locate a mature buck bedded with a doe. This is spot-and-stalk hunting at its best, and you'll be right there for all of the action.
NOV. 29 & DEC. 1, 3: KANSAS BOW, ILLINOIS MUZZLELOADER
This week Pat Reeve bowhunts those big Kansas bucks, while Greg Miller heads to western Illinois for a blackpowder hunt. Pat's hunt is on land managed by Rocky Outfitters, and he has some nerve-wracking encounters with big deer. Meanwhile, despite having only two days to hunt with Bucks Beware Outfitters in Illinois, Greg manages to get it done, taking a great buck with palmated antlers.
DEC. 6, 8, 10: TEXAS RIFLE
Stan Potts and Pat Reeve head to southwestern Texas to try their luck with South Texas Pro Outfitters. It's December in the thornbrush, and with the rut is kicking into high gear and the big bucks really on the move. Pat takes a wide 10-pointer, while Stan drops a beautiful 9-pointer.
DEC. 13, 15, 17: IOWA MUZZLELOADER, MISSISSIPPI RIFLE, TEXAS RIFLE
This week it's a late-season sweep through some of the best big-buck country in North America. First up is Pat Reeve, with a December gun hunt in Iowa. His host is Thunder Ridge Outfitters, and it doesn't take long to get into the bucks. From there it's on to Mississippi, where North American Whitetail contributor Clifford Neames joins Editor in Chief Gordon Whittington for a benefit hunt to raise funds for Central Academy. Hunting at Circle M Plantation, Gordon tags a solid 8-pointer. Then Dr. James Kroll hunts the Welder-Edwards Ranch in South Texas and tags a buck with distinctive mule-deer forks.
