Do you know your maximum bow range? Understanding the maximum distance you can accurately and effectively shoot is important can help you not only avoid shots that are beyond your range of effectiveness but can also help you to be more accurate when shooting within your effective maximum bow range.
North American Whitetail's Pat Hogan explains why you should determine the maximum distance you're comfortable with and capable of shooting in the field in this On Target segment.
Establishing a limit helps ease some of the stress that can occur when a target animal shows up on the edge of your self-imposed limit. By knowing the exact distance you can -- and won't -- take a shot, you can focus more fully on the shot itself.
While long-range shooting with archery equipment is certainly more attainable with today's equipment and gear (and is growing in popularity) setting a defined limit to your maximum effective range doesn't mean you're automatically limiting your chances for success. Some of the top bowhunters in the game have maximum effective ranges that are shorter than you might think -- and they've got the bucks on the walls to prove that it works.
