Fake News: Oklahoma Hunter Arrows Big Buck After Misinformation

Fake News: Oklahoma Hunter Arrows Big Buck After Misinformation
After hearing that this buck had been hit by a car, Oklahoma's Carson Heskett pulled his trail cameras and decided to quit hunting the massive whitetail. Luckily, that news was wrong and he soon got back in the game. As you can see, it worked out!

Some misleading information nearly caused Carson Heskett to quit bowhunting a giant Oklahoma whitetail. He got word that a big buck was hit by a car and hauled off near the property he and a friend were hunting. Assuming it had to be their target buck, they decided to pull the trail cams and call it a season. Then word came that their buck was still out there. Carson’s friend was unable to get back to the hunt, but graciously said “you go try for him,” so the cameras were placed again as efforts resumed.

“I was relieved to hear that he was still around,” Carson stated. “And I got pictures the first night!”

Carson was in his climber overlooking a big rye field early the next morning. The giant and a doe made a brief appearance then ducked back into the woods, offering no chance of a shot.

“That afternoon, they came out again at 250 yards and the doe was leading him my way,” Carson said. “She got to 65 yards with him trailing, then stopped leaving him still out of range.”

That encounter fired things right up, but the seesaw effect kicked in and Carson didn’t see the big deer on the next morning’s hunt.

Action began again early that afternoon when two does dashed into the field with the monster buck hot on their tail. The group made a couple of loops then faded into the trees.

“A few minutes later, 10 does came out in another spot and headed to the feeder,” he recalled. “I said to myself, he’s gonna come out there!”

Convinced it was about to happen, Carson stood up and began an unexpected 45-minute wait. The time on his feet paid off when the huge racked beast came out and headed straight to the does.

“He was facing me for quite awhile, then turned broadside at 35 yards,” Carson remembered. “I punched that G5 T2 broadhead through him and watched him take off and fall in 65 yards!”

After calling his friend to share the good news, Carson walked over to examine his buck.

The awesome 6x6 mainframe also includes a huge hook that comes off the right base and some additional smaller points. The 6 ½-year-old buck carrying 187 inches of antler is certainly going to look good on Carson’s wall!
