Kaiden Lynn of Hoyt, Kansas has loved the outdoors from a very young age. At just 8 years old he has regularly been helping his father, Daniel, put in food plots, setting up blinds, and waking up early on weekends to ensure schedules align with other daily priorities.
On Sunday, September 7th, Kaiden and his family had just returned home from a day of dove hunting. The family soon switched gears with Daniel and Kaiden heading out to scout for a deer they had been getting on trail camera.
A big non-typical buck they were after was frequenting their new farm they had purchased just two weeks prior, and to say they were excited would be an understatement.
"Having such an impressive deer right off the get-go on the new property would be a great opportunity for Kaiden," Daniel said.
Kaiden tagged his buck of a lifetime with his father, Daniel, coaching him along the way. Arriving at the new property, Kaiden and his father quickly constructed a make-shift ground blind where the two could comfortably hunt for the evening.
As the evening waned on, multiple deer filtered into the food plot passing within easy range.
"The thought of taking a lesser deer didn't even cross Kaiden's mind," Daniel explained. "We were there waiting on the big non-typical that was a regular visitor in the area."
So, the two remained patient. And after a couple hours of waiting, the big deer finally made his appearance out in the food plot the two hunters were overlooking.
After patiently waiting and letting some lesser bucks walk by, Kaiden connected with his estimated 200-inch non-typical giant. Daniel coached Kaiden along the way, instructing him to take his time to get the big buck in the crosshairs, centering them on his chest before firing.
After the shot, Kaiden instantly began crying because he thought he missed the deer completely. Daniel said he was shook up and devastated, but he knew otherwise — the shot had rang true.
Leaving the blind quietly after dark, the pair loaded up and headed home to give the buck time to expire. After a short dinner break, Daniel rallied the family to go search for a blood trail.
It didn't take long to pick up a good blood trail that ended just at 100 yards. Laying at the end of it was Kaiden's big non-typical buck!
This hunt is one that will certainly not be forgotten anytime soon. Kaiden's smile said it all as the entire family celebrated together with hugs and high fives.
"Kaiden was very fortunate to tag a deer of a lifetime," Daniel said. "And we are so eager to see his love for the outdoors continue to thrive for years to come!"
Though no numbers have been put on the big non-typical as of yet, it is estimated to gross around 200 inches. After the 60-day drying period is complete, the family plans on getting the giant buck officially scored.
