I’ve been using Moultrie cellular cameras for more than a decade, and it’s amazing just how far the technology has advanced over the years.

Like most children, I had a hard time falling asleep on Christmas Eve. The anticipation over what I’d find under the tree in the morning was almost more than I could bear, and inevitably, at the ungodly hour of 5 a.m., I’d be bouncing on my older sister’s bed, anxiously asking, “Did Santa come? Did Santa come?”
Needless to say, my exuberance for the morning was not shared by said sister, who would admonish me strongly and send me back to bed for at least another hour.
Although an awful lot has changed over the past 45 years, I still get awfully excited and more than a little impatient when it comes to getting presents. And I’ve been known, even as adults, to call my big sis well before the crack of dawn on Christmas morning just to hear her half unconscious hello and shout, “Did Santa come? Did Santa come?” Rest assured, she finds it about as amusing now as she did back then!
These are some of the more impressive Pennsylvania velvet bucks I’ve captured on my cameras over the years. As we head toward the dog days of summer and the new whitetail season that will follow shortly thereafter, it got me reminiscing about those Christmas mornings of old, because I realized that in a lot of ways, my Moultrie Edge cellular trail cameras have replaced the presents that Mom and Dad (uh, I mean Santa) used to place under the tree. You see, with cell cams, every morning is like Christmas morning, and if you’re anything like me, the first thing you do when you wake up (regardless of the hour) is grab your phone, open the Moultrie app and see what visitors you had at your camera sites overnight. Just like tearing the wrapping paper mom wanted you to save (yeah, right) off a box under the tree, you never know what you’re going to find when your image gallery updates in the app.

Some days, you are greeted with something really cool, like a big, fuzzy-antlered, velvet buck you’ve never seen before but surely hope to see again on opening day. I suppose in Christmas terms, this is the equivalent of receiving a Star Wars Millennium Falcon or other hot toy that would have made all the neighborhood kids jealous.
Other days, all you see are a couple raccoons, a skunk or an opossum waddling around in front of your feeder. I’d say these are the Christmas equivalents of socks and underwear. Yuck!
(Moultrie photo) The good news is, thanks to Moultrie AI built into the new-for-2025 Edge 3 and Edge 3 Pro cameras, you can tell the Moultrie App exactly what you want, just like you used to try to tell Mom and Dad. The difference here is, Moultrie actually listens and remembers! So, if you don’t want those racoon and skunk photos, or doe photos for that matter, you don’t have to get them. On the other hand, if you’re interested in mature bucks and turkeys, you can prioritize those images by having them sent to you immediately.

Cellular cameras are not only one of the most powerful hunting tools ever invented; they are a godsend for impatient sportsmen like me. In case you didn’t already know, I consider waiting highly overrated. Opening day can’t get here fast enough, but until then, I’ve got daily gifts from Moultrie to help me get there.
