New deer ammunition keeps getting better and better as technological breakthroughs improve accuracy, penetration and performance. Here's a look at a couple new offerings that'll help you fill tags this fall.
Nosler Trophy Grade
Trophy Grade ammo from Nosler
is built for the hunter who wants to know that when he pulls the trigger, the gun is going off and the bullet will hit what the gun is aiming at every time. To ensure Trophy Grade ammo will perform flawlessly, Nosler does a variety of things including checking the cases for correct length, neck size, chambered and trued, flash holes checked for proper alignment, powder charges are meticulously weighed, and finished rounds are visually inspected and polished. Trophy Grade ammunition is available in dozens of calibers.
30 Remington AR
has an ammo designed for AR rifles that is built for hunting whitetail-sized game called 30 Remington AR. This 30-caliber bullet was designed to quickly bring whitetails down and quickly cycle so if a second shot is needed the gun is ready. It offers minimal recoil and accuracy. The round utilizes Remingtons Core-Lokt bullet and AccuTip. We finally have a cartridge for an AR that is designed for the hunt.
Winchester Super-X Power Max
has a new ammo designed especially for whitetails called Super-X Power Max Bonded. This cartridge has a protected hollow point. The lead core is bonded to the jacket with a proprietary process. The best feature is the frontal area of the mushroom is more than double the original diameter. It is important to point out that the lead remains bonded to the jacket after impact. This ammo is available in over a dozen calibers.
Federal Vital Shok
has a new deer slug called Vital Shok Trophy Copper Sabot Slug. This superman of a slug was designed to have less recoil than most slugs on the market while still delivering plenty of accuracy and energy. Some of the key features include a two-part sabot design that provides unique projectile base support and a clean launch mechanism for downrange accuracy. This slug has an externally skived, deep slug cavity for superior penetration. The slug has a polymer tip and an aerodynamic profile that increases the ballistic coefficient for higher velocity and energy and less drop.
Remington Premier Accutip Bonded Sabot Slug
makes a slew of slug options. One of the most impressive is the Premier Accutip Bonded Sabot Slug. This .58-caliber slug is enormous, which creates very large entrance and exit wounds. It is said to be extremely accurate out to 200 yards. Some of the great features include a Power Port Tip, which cuts through the air like a knife delivering amazing accuracy, more than 95 percent weight retention and a slug jacket that is made from high-strength cartridge brass. This slug is only to be used in fully rifled barrels. The Premier slug is available for 12- and 20-gauge guns.
makes a great shotgun slug called the SST. This slug comes with the Hornady FTX bullet, which has a sharp point, allowing it to fly faster and farther than other slugs. This slug reportedly achieves sub-2-inch groups at 100 yards. This slug weighs an amazing 300 grains, which delivers 1,200 foot-pounds of energy.
bullets are designed specifically for today's high tech muzzleloaders. One high-tech bullet they offer is the Aerolite. The Aerolite is designed to be used with a 100-grain propellant. This bullet has a much larger hollow point cavity than other bullets, which maximizes expansion while eliminating weight.
Remington Kleanbore Primers
offers Kleanbore primers for muzzleloading shotguns and rifles. According to Remington employees, the gun can go two to 15 more shots between cleanings which saves time and reduces gun wear. They also dramatically reduced chamber buildup for easier bullet seating and more consistent and reliable ignition.
