Jay Vance, Indiana

Were these two big whitetails closely related? To look at this photo of Elkhart resident Jay Vance's trophy mounts, you might assume so. However, the deer came from different counties. The Dekalb County 10-pointer to Jay's immediate left was shot from a tree stand in a creek bottom on opening morning of the Nov. 1986 slug season. The other buck, an 11-pointer, was shot in an Elkhart County alder swamp during the 1987 archery season. The bucks' net scores are 142 6/8 and 131 1/8, respectively.
