As handgunning for whitetails continues to grow in popularity, more hunters have come to appreciate the effectiveness of medium-power .500 Magnum ammunition, which provides serious put-down power out to 100 yards for even the biggest bucks -- without the massive recoil normally associated with that cartridge.
Responding, Smith & Wesson has introduced a new, more conventional-configuration version of its heavy-frame Model 500 revolver, with a 6.5-inch barrel featuring a lighter-weight half-lugged barrel and integral porting. Equipped with Red Ramp and White-outline adjustable sights, a drilled and tapped frame for optics mounting, and Hogue Sorbathane recoil-cushion grips, the new Model 500 is a compact, effective, and entirely manageable whitetail tool.
