Breaking News Buck The bow season in Iowa is my favorite time of year. In 2021, we had lots of awesome pictures on all the properties that I’m allowed to hunt. We run a lot of cameras, and I’ll never forget the day when my son shouted to me, “Dad, look at this monster!”
I thought he was messing with me, but when I saw the picture I thought, That’s a shooter for sure.
Big Show - Season One... I hoped this hunting season would present something good, because my wife was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumor just before hunting season began. With that in my head constantly, I prayed the Lord would give me something positive

Each weekend my son and I would pack and head to deer camp, with thoughts of the giant buck on trail camera and prayers for my wife. I ended up calling the deer “Big Show,” and I hunted him each weekend. I was persistent but I only hunted him if the wind was right. Finally, November rolled around.
Of all the bucks Logan had on trail camera, Big Show was the one he knew was certainly a shooter. (Photo by Logan Jackson) Big Show is Live On Nov. 28, 2021, my son dropped me off at my spot and headed on to his. It was a calm, frosty morning, and after we both arrived in our spots, we began snapchatting each other. It wasn’t long and I looked up to the hillside and saw some movement.
There were 12 does on the hillside, and just like you imagine in your dreams, I saw a buck herding the does like an old bull elk! It was amazing!
I knew it was Big Show, so I didn’t call or move any more than I had to so I could grab my bow. After he tended to the does, Big Show moved into the creek bottom where his scrapes and rubs are, and he was just 14 yards away. Once he turned and was quartering away from me, I let the arrow fly off my Mathews and my Rage hit him perfectly for the quartering away shot!
He went 75 yards and I watched him tip over!
Big Show Goes Down My knees buckled when I saw him crash, and I had to sit down. I snapchatted my son and told him what had happened, but he didn’t believe me. But he couldn’t doubt it at all when I sent him pictures; it was crazy!
To me, putting in your time and taking others is what hunting is all about. When you’re hunting, believing in yourself and practicing is what helps dreams come true!
