A rainy Saturday morning yielded a real Georgia giant for one hunter earlier this month.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, Joshua Earp said he found a scrape line on a firebreak, close to the planted pines he set up the previous Monday in hopes of luring the buck that laid the scrapes.

When the rain finally let up, Earp said a small, nervous doe came out of the pines. Picking up movement behind her, Earp spotted the buck. Knowing instantly he was a shooter, Earp waited for a good shot on the big boy.

Joshua-Earp_002The buck finally made his way to the firebreak — a perfect shot for Earp, who lined up his T/C Encore and placed a shot right to the base of the buck's neck, dropping him. After loading the big buck up and getting him home, where he could be scored and caped, Earp said he was at a loss for words.

"I was really speechless after the scoring. It's truly a buck of a lifetime," Earp said. "I've hunted 25 years for this, and give all thanks to God and my father for teaching me and introducing me to this sport I'm addicted to."

Earp's Georgia giant scored 187 inches green, weighing in at 235 pounds.
