A good hunting area, a great hunting partner, and an even more impressive buck all came together on the evening of November 3, 2010 to rewrite the Delaware record book. Nick Pruitt and his hunting partner Ryan Russ headed for a classic pinch point on a bow hunting only state park.
After settling into his stand, Nick watched a young 8-point bumping does, but decided to pass on the shot. Shortly after the 8-point was out of sight, Nick heard another deer coming his way, was it a bigger buck than the 8-point?
Fortunately for Nick the woods were extremely thick and he didn't see the buck until he was in range. The buck milled around for a few heart-pounding seconds before presenting Nick with a quartering shot. Pruitt wasted no time in releasing an arrow. Shortly after the shot his phone rang, it was Ryan; the buck had fallen right in front of his treestand.
The Pruitt buck features good mass, main beams that measure 24 3/8" and 25 6/8" with an inside spread of 22 3/8" and 17 points. Nick's buck also now ranks as the No. 1 archery non-typical deer in Delaware.
