This fine 8-pointer from Putnam County, West Virginia, apparently didn't realize that Cathy Addington is a former state-champion target archer. Nor did he know that she was on a roll. The buck erred by coming within range of Cathy's stand during the 1997 season and turned out to be her third bow kill that fall. The Winfield hunter also had arrowed a big doe . . . not to mention a 317-pound black bear in Webster County! How does Cathy explain this run of good fortune? "I think part of it is luck, being in the right place at the right time, and having everything go right," she says. "However, I have also worked really hard and have had my share of coming home empty-handed. So, it is skill and luck combined." Photo by Frank Addington Jr.
