North American Whitetail's Dr. James Kroll and Pat Hogan take an overall look at the property they're turning into a Deer Factory and just how critical forest management planning is.
Planting food plots, creating openings -- all of these are fairly simple steps that can produce almost immediate results. But long-term plans must include proper forest management planning and the results from those efforts can take many years to realize.
Mast production from youngs trees can take a decade or more to occur and most properties will have some short-term deficits in forage and nutrition when lacking these elements. Adding those species such as oaks can greatly improve the long-term production of the property. Existing mast-producing trees can also be improved and enhanced with proper forest management planning.
