Nathan Jones decided to take a break from his studies at college and spend it deer hunting with dad near Thackerville, Oklahoma with his muzzleloader.
After getting settled into his stand, he spotted what he thought was an eight-point buck behind him that was moving towards his location. He got off a broadside shot from 35 yards and thought he hit the buck too far back.
"I watched him walk off slowly, all hunched up, and all I could think about was that I hit him bad and I had to get another shot at him," said Nathan, "as I reloaded, I called dad and he came over. Together, we watched the buck lay down and die."
Once Jones was able to grip his buck's horns, he realized the deer was a lot bigger than he thought and believes the gross score will end up in the 150s.
