Whether you’re in the market for a new scope to top your latest coyote gun or deer rifle, or you’re just planning to upgrade an old favorite for deer or other big game, you are fortunate to be facing an important buying decision at just the right time, because the optics experts at Vortex just introduced their new Viper HD Riflescope line .
Based out of their impressive new digs in Barneveld, Wisconsin, just west of Madison, the Vortex team has been turning out some amazingly innovative optics. The designs for their latest line of new Viper HD Riflescopes will add to that growing reputation.
The new Viper HD Family offers a wide range of options in three distinct magnification classes. I’ve got the versatile 2-10x42 that’s destined for an already trusty deer rifle of mine. Additionally, they’ve introduced three models in the highly adaptable 3-15x44, and then they’ve also offered four models in a powerful 5-25x50. That’s eight great new riflescopes for you to consider, and one or more will be perfect for whatever hunting style you prefer and whatever predator or big game you’ll be targeting in the months ahead.
Viper HD Riflescopes feature HD Optical Systems ensuring superior light transmission and enhanced resolution; Illuminated Reticles for better accuracy at dawn and dusk; Second or First Focal Plane variants; the Dead-Hold BDC or Technical Reticles for streamlined wind and elevation adjustments; Capped or Exposed Locking Turret options to eliminate accidental movement but allow for rapid holdovers and changes; RevStop Zero System (on exposed turret models) making for quick and reliable return to zero; and a Single-Piece 30 mm Tube for more travel and enhanced performance overall. Rest assured, there’s a field-proven riflescope design here for every hunting application.

The HD Optical System with fully multi-coated lenses is housed in an Argon-gas-purged Armortek body and is guaranteed to be shockproof, fogproof, and waterproof. The result is a family of riflescopes that excel in low-light conditions and deliver outstanding color fidelity, image clarity, resolution, and sharpness. Precise aiming at extended ranges promises unmatched accuracy – and will make for one very happy and confident hunter!
My Viper HD 2-10x42 (MSRP $899.99) measures 12.1 inches and weighs just 19.9 ounces. It’s set for the Second Focal Plane with the Dead-Hold BDC MOA illuminated reticle (center dot powered by a CR2032 battery, 80-hour life on setting #6), promises 3.4” eye relief, linear field of view of 61.6’-11.9’ at 100 yards, max elevation and windage adjustments of 135 MOA, and parallax setting of 100 yards.
If you’re looking for more magnification and more dialing control, check out the capped and exposed turret options of the Viper HD 3-15x44 (MSRP $999.99-$1,049.99), and for even higher magnification and precise aiming, consider variants of the Viper HD 5-25x50 (Second Focal Plane models’ MSRP $1,299.99 and First Focal Plane models’ MSRP $1,399.99).
